General abrasion is a common mechanical process on surfaces caused by scuffing, rubbing, or scratching under normal operation or under environmental exposure. Additionally, there is a special abrasion which is generated merely between human fingertip & hand and touched product surface. This special abrasion, namely ABREX®-ABRASION leads to distinct patterns of damages on the materials and its surfaces. It widely appears in many types of consumer products.

ABREX®

The special soft-chemo-mechanical fingertip abrasion & hand abrasion and 99% simulation of the reality with the same wear pattern. It is a highly complex abrasion process which involves:

  • Firstly a 45° angle impact driven by a dynamic pneumatic cylinder attached with a viscoelastic fingertip under a defined load;
  • Then a friction rubbing or tumbling motion between the sample and a textile containing dirt, dandruff, oil, sweat or various types of testing liquids;
  • Followed by a retraction movement with or without the contact at the surface depending on the application.

ABREX®-A

ABREX®-A is specially designed for simulation of the human fingertip movements on the touchscreen product, for example, smart phone, pad, watch and other electronic wear. The common touch, zoom and fast double stroke swiping movements cause imperceptible abrasion on the touchscreen. Those unavoidable wear diminish the functionality of surface coatings. ABREX®-A has two modes: standard ABREX® and an additional A mode. Within the standard mode, various tests including touch and zoom motions simulation can be performed. The additional A mode is designed to simulate the swipe movement which occurs often on the touchscreen, either during gaming or other situation.

ABREX®-D

ABREX®-E

ABREX®-E has two separate modes: standard ABREX and an additional E mode. Within the standard mode, various tests can be performed according to IEC 68-2-70/DIN 60068. The additional E mode is designed to simulate:

  • human fingernail scratch (BWM GS97034-2) which occurs often in the interior parts of the car;
  • shoe sole scratch test (BWM GS97034-3) which occurs often when the customer entering the car with the unavoidable shoe sole scratch/scuff marks on the driver’s side door and the bottom part of the driver’s seat

ABREX®-TRES

EBREX®

The EBREX® Hand Abrasion Tester is the state of the art testing machine for the special environmental testing “Abrasion of markings and letterings caused by rubbing of fingers and hands” according to IEC 68-2-70 and EN DIN 60068-2-70.
